WELCOME TO DAY 4

Welcome to Day 4 (week 4),

I appreciate the wonderful and insightful comments, questions, and posts on D2L and the new blog sites.  It is fun to see new blog sites appear where there once was only a blank screen.

This week you will see that I have posted a place on this blog to give a reading response to our readings for this week or last week.  I want you to feel free to post something on either or both readings. I also encourage you to respond to what others have said, build on past posts and extend conversations.

You will also see that  I have created a couple of checklists to help clarify expectations and be as clear as possible with where we should be at this time in the semester.  I will email these checklists to you, post on D2L and create a link below.  My hope is that everyone will have access to these checklists.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

UPCOMING ITEMS TO HAVE ON YOUR RADAR

Please have the book Slave Dancer read by March 3, 2012
Your Student Treasure book is due March 3.
You will need to inform me of when and where your literature circle group will be meeting at class on March 3. Your off campus literature circle meetings need to happen before or on March 10th.

 GETTING YOUR THEME BLOG STARTED
This is a checklist to help you make sure that you have included all the elements needed to get your blog started and running.
Design your blog to your liking
Have your theme clearly defined and articulated on your blog.

Explain to the readers (the people in your blog will group will be your main readers) of your blog how your theme addresses an important current or historical movement that has social implications.

Why do you feel that your theme has substance so that your learners come out of the unit having a deep understanding of background issues, and the effects of humans upon the physical and/or social environment?   In other words, how does your theme address social effects/consequences such as legal, environmental, socio-economic, political, cultural, lifestyle etc.

Tell us the three grade levels (e.g., K-2, 4-6, 9-12, or any other combination between k-12), your theme will address.  Please make sure that when choosing texts to keep in mind there will be multiple levels of development in reading including troubled readers, ELL students, developmentally delayed students etc.   In other words, if you are teaching seventh grade English, focus mainly on the middle school grades, but include literature to challenge mature readers.

Look on the “Day 3 Blog” to find your blog group. You should be able to just click on the blog addresses there to link to all the members in your group blog.

Read each members (in your group) blog.

Post a comment to each member (in your group) on their blog site. Please read “How to write insightful comments” in Day 4 Blog to help guide you with this.
Feel free to continue any conversations/comments on your blog site as well as share information.
